Work constitutes a major part of most people’s adult life. It is crucial, therefore, not to neglect health and wellness at the workplace. Many people find themselves stuck in jobs which either do not excite them or fail to bring out the best in them. In the long run, such jobs tend to become stressors, and can even take a major toll on one’s health and wellbeing.

Life can be truly rewarding if one finds joy and wellbeing through one’s line of work. Today, with a huge number of career opportunities present at one’s disposal, making a career switch to suit one’s passion is no longer impossible or arduous.

With an objective of promoting joy and wellbeing at work, we have looked into three Career streams that promote Wellness, not just for the person engaged in them, but also for the environment and society at large.

The world has become much smaller and interconnected with the digital revolution which has proved to be a boon during the pandemic. Today, if you have any skill or knowledge to share, you truly have a global audience at your disposal.

There is a boom in the demand for Online Teachers in the current times.

From Subject teachers, right from History to Mathematics to tutors for various Entrance Examinations, there are large numbers of students in need of and willing to be taught digitally. Coding and Computer Science tutors are highly sought after.

Not just students, but people from all walks of life are eager to invest in Online Learning. Hence Creative courses such as Dance, Music, Cooking and Art are much popular and so is Vocational training in diverse fields like Web-designing, Fashion, Accounting and Health Care. Worth a mention also are Spiritual, Healing, Fitness and Yoga courses online.

Besides, there are various tools at disposal today to effectively engage with learners and build their interest.. One can do Podcasts, Webinars, YouTube videos, or run a Vlog. Zoom is already very popular for group classes.

So a question to ponder upon: what is the skill or knowledge that you want to share with the world?

Wellness Quotient: Teaching is known to be one of the most rewarding professions as Teachers get to shape the lives, ignite minds and inspire individuals to achieve their potential. Sharing one’s expertise to add meaning and value to people’s lives is a gratifying feeling.

GREEN JOBS

Green is the fresh emblem of well founded hopes. In blue the spirit can wander, but in green it can rest.

The definition of Green Jobs, according to the United Nations Development Program, is “work in agricultural, manufacturing, research and development (R&D), administrative, and service activities that contribute(s) substantially to preserving or restoring environmental quality.

There are a variety of possibilities here.

On the Design and Architecture side, options range from landscape designing, designing biophilic interiors, urban spaces and ‘green buildings’. ‘Green projects’, which are environmentally responsible end-to-end: from design, construction and operation through to maintenance and demolition, are fast gaining preference over non-sustainable counterparts.

Other interesting jobs in this segment include Sustainability Consultant, Environmental Consultant, Recycler, Urban Farmer, Climate Change Scientist, Natural Scientist, Agriculture Scientist, Ecologist, Biofuel Jobs.

‘Green’ is where the Future lies. Governments, Industries and Citizens are getting increasingly conscious about the need for a sustainable future. Acquiring training and skills for these jobs is not difficult. Certifications such as LEED Professional Accreditation or Environmental Designing and Landscaping Courses are key steps towards becoming a Certified Professional.

Wellness Quotient: If you love ‘Green’, are passionate about Nature and concerned about the Environment’s future, this could be a gratifying job option for you. Green Jobs provide a sense of contentment which is rooted in giving back to Nature and promoting wellbeing for the Earth and its inhabitants.

Whether you want to share stories, experiences or your mind and soul, want to express yourself or have aspirations to make an impact on the world, there is no denying the possibilities and potential of the written word.

The advantage with writing is that it can be done on a flexible schedule, though it does need some discipline and consistency. Hence it is a widely pursued freelance career option for people. Writing is a skill that can be learnt and there is a demand for writers in multiple genres, from writing fiction to editing and proofreading books and articles.

Writers of today have numerous platforms to showcase their work and also get paid. There are various journals, magazines and publications that accept articles from writers across the world, under different genres right from essays to poetry. Most of them pay for published work. A few of these are: The Sun Magazine, AGNI Publication, Spark The Magazine, Lackington’s, The Iowa Review.

Some great web platforms are also available today for writers to present their work to vibrant reading communities and also earn money. Some of the popular platforms are Medium, Ghost and HubPages. A personal blog is a great way to communicate one’s ideas and brand. Bloggers can earn money in various ways, such as advertisements, affiliate marketing and sponsored posts.

Wellness Quotient: Writing scores high on the scale of personal gratification, as it is a great channel of self-expression as well as a popular mode of catharsis. Writers are able to build a body of work which remains forever. The contentment attained by them when readers resonate with their work is indeed unparalleled.

Life is too short to be stuck in a career which doesn’t resonate with your personality and interests.
